In 2 weeks, we came together as a community to support a global cause. Without Twitter, the event would not have been as successful. Twitter is only as strong as the connections that are made through the application. This event showed that although Twitter is not mainstream, the Charlotte Twitter Community is diverse and strong. The Charlotte Twitter Community proved that we are capable of coming together very quickly and work toward a common goal.
The Successes of the event were that we planned a fun social event in which everything was donated from the DJs, the Banners, the prizes like the cruise, massages, scuba lessons, Tickets to Endsession, and event planning from Carolina NightLife. Creative Loafing and 106.5 partnered with us to help promote the event. We had special guest like Terri Bennett from Doyourpart.com, Nathan Richie as the MC, the Llttle Mermaid, and Professional Photographer Neil Cowley. WCNC ran a story the night of the event that was very positive for Twitter, Twestival, and Charity: Water. We were successful in raising awareness for Charity: Water and for Twitter in the local market. We only raised half of our goal because we had a lot of businesses who wanted to participate in the event and in this economic environment it was easier for them to give prizes in lieu of cash donations.
The Charlotte Social Media Community is building a strong foundation for future conferences, charity events, and other collaborative ventures. The events will continue to get larger and we are excited that Charlotte Twestival was one step into that future.
Thank you to everyone who came to the event, donated money, and volunteered time to make the Charlotte Twestival a success.
